Dalit community in Gujarat is making its stand clear against the atrocities that it has to bear at the hands of the people from the so-called upper classes. Recently, led by the Dalit Asmita Sammelan, the people of this community have decided to hold rallies to protest against the ill-treatment of its people and also attacks on Dalit marriage processions for grooms riding horses. The Ashwamegh Yatra will be held in the parts of the state where discrimination against the community was prevalent. The decision to hold protest rallies was taken during the organization’s meeting at Chuval-Dangarava village of Detroj tehsil in Ahmedabad district on Sunday.
The whole situation began when a groom from the Dalit community was allegedly attacked for riding a horse during his marriage procession on May 26 this year. Even though FIR had been filed, the authorities have yet to take any action against the perpetrators. There have also been some stoning incidents as well. Similar incidents have been reported in Sabarkantha district and other parts of the state as well.
According to sources, the protest rallies were aimed at urging the government to take serious action against those who are demeaning the people of the Dalit community. The community will also demand that the government help in protection against their rights. the community will also want the authorities to take serious action so that these attacks are not repeated.
