Day 1 of the fifth edition of Abhivyakti: The City Arts Project of Torrent Group’s UNM Foundation was a resounding success, with art lovers of all age groups and social strata flocking to the Upasana School of Performing Arts at Gujarat University Campus to witness the captivating folk fusion performance and thought-provoking visual art installations.
The evening began with a mesmerizing opening performance by the renowned folk fusion band Iktara, led by the celebrated music maestro Hardik Dave. Their creation “Sam” transported the audience-packed amphitheater on an odyssey of self-discovery through the medium of Eastern folk music. Dave’s masterful blend of traditional music styles with contemporary influences resonated deeply with the audience, conveying the significance of life’s balance and the power of inner exploration.
Prior to the opening performance, art enthusiasts were immersed in a captivating exhibition of original and authentic visual arts curated by Dhara Dave Vyas, a renowned art expert. Fifty talented artists showcased their diverse perspectives and artistic expressions through 50 thought-provoking installations, spanning a wide range of mediums, including installations, fabric installations, paintings, photography, print making, sculpture, and video arts.
Ami Patel’s MFA Graduate of Sir JJ School of Art installation “You Are The Reflection- A Story of Mind’s Reflection” explored the multifaceted nature of perception, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of their own reflections through a mesmerizing interplay of materials and techniques.
Thomas Changmai’s installation “Diminishing footprint of Dehing Patkai” delved into the profound power of geometric formations, bridging the gap between contemporary science and visual art while honoring the wisdom of ancient customs and rituals.
Alka Karandikar’s installation “Landscape – Through My Lens” transcended mere functionality, transforming quilts into captivating tapestries that narrated powerful stories and addressed societal issues.
Niyati Patel’s 15-foot-tall installation ‘Find Yourself’ invited viewers to engage physically and introspectively, exploring the complexities of the human psyche and the interplay between order and chaos.
Narayan Patel’s installation “Silence in the storm” sought to create a profound connection with the elements of nature, pulsating with vibrant energy and a spectrum of emotions. His work boldly represented the boundless symbolism and vitality of existence.
Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project is organized by the UNM Foundation of Mehta Family of the Torrent Group, with a vision to make art an integral part of the social fabric, accessible to all without constraint of location, social or economic strata. The project aims to identify and support budding talent, providing them with a platform to showcase their craft to the city and its populace.
The fifth edition of Abhivyakti will run from November 24th till December 10th, 2023, featuring 37 artists presenting 106 performances and 50 visual art installations created by 50 artists.
