Defence Establishments Across Gujarat Participates In Yoga Day Celebrations

International Day of Yoga is being celebrated across the globe, and various defence units in Gujarat also joined the festivities. Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura in Jamnagar, Vadodara Military Station , Coast Guard Units in Gujarat, NCC Directorate Gujarat and South Western Air Command headquarters celebrated this day at their respective stations and headquarters.

INS Valsura Celebration 

A celebration of the eighth International Day of Yoga was held at the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura, one of the premier electrical training establishments of the Indian Navy from May 30 to 21 June 21,2022 as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration. 

The theme for this year was ‘Yoga for Humanity’, and numerous events were organized, including month-long yoga sessions held by the Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Jamnagar, for ladies and children.

Along with the local population, over 200 employees from the establishment participated in the Yoga Camp organized by the District Administration in Jamnagar City. The Commander of INS Valsura congratulated the Yoga Instructors following the session. 

Indian Coast Guards Celebration

Several Coast Guard units in Gujarat participated enthusiastically in the 8th International Day of Yoga on June 21. About 1500 Coast Guard members and their families participated in Yoga sessions at all Coast Guard establishments and units in Gujarat. 

In conjunction with the countdown events to this day, several yoga practices were held at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West) from May 19 till May 30.

Military station Vadodra Celebration

The Vadodara Air Defence Brigade at Vadodra Military Station participated enthusiastically and with vigour in Yoga Day celebrations. Asanas were performed within the unit line and from homes during the event. The event was attended by 78 people and 28 families adhering to all Covid precautions.

The key aim of the event was to demonstrate the Indian Army’s keen understanding of Yoga’s value as a stress-busting tool and alternative fitness regime. The Indian Army encourages its soldiers to learn and adopt various yogic techniques to improve mental concentration and develop a positive outlook on life. 

SWAC Headquarter Celebration

Yoga Day was celebrated at HQ South Western Air Command (SWAC) on with full enthusiasm, wherein all personnel and their families participated in the activities organised to commemorate the occasion.

The event started at 06:40 hrs with the screening of the live telecast of the motivational speech by PM Modi, followed by the yoga session as per the common yoga protocol issued by the Ministry of Ayush.

The yoga session included prayer, various asanas and meditation and concluded with the yoga Sankalp. The session was conducted by renowned yoga Guru  Kanjibhai Solanki and Dr Kavita Kanjibhai Solanki of Gandhinagar. A quiz on yoga was also conducted for the participants at the end of the session.

Air Marshal Vikram Singh AVSM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, SWAC and Dr. Arathi Singh, President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional) attended the session and interacted with the participants at the event. The AOC-in-C exhorted participants to include yoga in their everyday schedules, for overall health and well-being.

International Day of Yoga is an initiative first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on 27 September, 2014. Following this initial proposal, the UN adopted the draft resolution, decided to allot June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. This day has been celebrated annually since 2015. 

NCC Directorate Gujarat Celebration

The 8th edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated across 348 locations under the jurisdiction of NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu today. The theme for this year’s yoga day was ‘Yoga for Humanity’. As run-up to the event IDY 2022, the campaign was focused on the theme “100 days, 100 Cities and 100 Organisations” till June 21st 2022 across the globe; for this NCC has been identified as one of the organisations by the AYUSH Ministry. 

The cadets have posted their selfies with their respective certificates on social media. A total of 60 Officers, 500 PI Staff, 750 ANOs and 42,500 NCC Cadets of 05 Groups and 43 Units of NCC Directorate Gujarat Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu conducted Yoga at 348 different locations across the Gujarat Directorate including 20 iconic places to include “Statue of Unity”, “National Salt Satyagrah Memorial Dandi”, “Dandi Kutir Gandhinagar”, “Diu Fort”, Kankaria Lake” and “Rajkumar College, Rajkot”. 

Major General Arvind Kapoor, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Naga Haveli, Daman & Diu lauded the contribution of the NCC Cadets, further motivating them to continue with their contribution towards Social Service and Community Development activities as part of Nation Building.
