Delhi HC Issues Notice in Aaradhya Bachchan’s Plea to Remove Misleading Online Content

| Updated: February 3, 2025 18:57

The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice in response to a plea filed by Aaradhya Bachchan, the 13-year-old daughter of Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, seeking the removal of misleading content circulating online.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 17. Legal notices have been served to several defendants, including Google, Bollywood Times, and other online platforms.

This latest development follows a previous ruling in April 2023, when the High Court directed Google to take down videos falsely claiming that Aaradhya was ‘critically ill’ or had passed away.

Justice C Hari Shankar, during the 2023 proceedings, strongly condemned the spread of such content, stressing that every child deserves dignity and respect. He further asserted that spreading misleading information about a minor’s health is “entirely unacceptable in law.”

At that time, the court had instructed Google to disclose the identities of those responsible for uploading such content and mandated that any future misleading videos be flagged for prompt removal.

The central government was also directed to restrict access to such material, and Google was reminded of its legal responsibility to comply with the regulatory framework.
