The BJP that has always called itself a disciplined party and a party with a difference came in for a shock in Gujarat when treasurer of its Surat unit and a party worker were involved in a physical fight in the party office.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Sources said that worker Dinesh Savaliya had a minor argument with a peon over tea and snacks. The peon in turn informed treasurer Shailesh Jariwala about it and this then resulted into a confrontation between the treasurer and Savaliya.
During the argument, Savaliya publicly slapped Jariwala, shocking other activists and office bearers present. The incident was recorded, and the video quickly went viral on social media.
Following the viral video, party’s Surat unit president Paresh Patel said both of them were issued notices and asked to submit their response within three days. Strict action will be taken if they are found guilty, he told the media.
The altercation took place on the second floor of the BJP office. According to reports, Jariwala told Savaliya: “I am the treasurer and I have to look after everything, so don’t wander around here too much.” Other office workers witnessed the exchange.
When Jariwala reportedly pushed Savaliya, the latter lost his temper and suddenly slapped him. The confrontation left other BJP workers stunned.
Savaliya is reported to have behaved in this manner earlier also.
Former Surat president Niranjan Zanjmera is reported to have received numerous complaints about Savaliya from within the party.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi said that the drama of the BJP is for everyone to see.
State BJP spokesperson Dr. Yagnesh Dave told Vibes Of India that he would not comment on this. “It is a party matter,” he said.
