“Dunki” Flight: Unaccompanied 2 Year-Old On Board, Untraceable

| Updated: January 1, 2024 12:24

Mystery surrounds the disappearance of the unaccompanied minor, a two-year-old boy on board, after a Nicaragua bound plane carrying supposedly 303 illegal immigrants from India was intercepted in France and all the passengers were sent back, reached home. In an apparent “Donkey” flight as depicted in the latest Rajkumar Hirani film, the passengers are believed to have attempted to reach Nicaragua with an intention of penetrating US border.

The Gujarat police is investing the whereabouts of the 2 year old unaccompanied minor from Gujarat, who the authorities confirm to have been onboard and is now untraceable. The Police is trying to identify his parents or guardians as well. The investigation gains significance as police is looking at the involvement of international human smuggling gang angle, going beyond the illegal immigration investigation.

As many families in North Gujarat have left their homes temporarily, post capture of the plane in France, the task of police is difficult as yet. It is a known strategy of the racketeers of illegal immigration that they often concoct fake families with unrelated people posing as spouses and children. In this context, establishing identity of missing child identified as one born on August 2, 2021, is becoming difficult.

It is often found also that agents send real parents earlier and arrange the children’s infiltration later. Police is looking at various possible scenarios in the light of the data from US Customs and Border Protection that between 2020 and 2023, 730 unaccompanied Indian children were found abandoned on US borders.
