Estate War: Karisma Kapoor’s Kids Vs Priya Sachdev In Rs 30,000 Cr Legal Row

| Updated: September 10, 2025 15:59

The dispute surrounding the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has deepened, with his children from actor Karisma Kapoor accusing his widow of forgery and unlawful exclusion from his will. Samaira and Kiaan, the two children of Sunjay and Karisma, have approached the Delhi High Court, seeking what they claim is their “rightful share” of their father’s estate. Their legal battle is directed against Sunjay’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, and three other individuals.

The children have reportedly alleged that their stepmother, colluded with her two associates, Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, to withhold the will for more than seven weeks before presenting it at a family meeting on July 30, 2025.

In their petition before the Delhi High Court, Samaira and Kiaan have accused Priya Sachdev Kapur — Sunjay’s third wife, whom he married in 2017 — of attempting to forge a will to seize full control of his substantial fortune. Before Priya, Sunjay was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016. The couple had two children during their marriage: Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2011.

The lawsuit further claims that Priya initially denied the existence of any will. Later, she presented a document dated March 21, 2025, as the official will of Sunjay Kapur. The siblings have contested the authenticity of this document and have expressed that they lacked full knowledge of their father’s assets at the time of his death.

They also alleged that Sunjay had frequently reassured them regarding their financial future. The court filing asserts that he had established business ventures in their names, acquired assets both personally and through corporate structures, and designated them as beneficiaries of the family trust. It accuses Priya of deliberately withholding critical information and failing to disclose the complete scope of assets.

Sunjay Kapur passed away in June in London due to a heart attack. He was the founder and chairman of Sona Comstar, a major global player in auto manufacturing. His estate is estimated to be worth around Rs 30,000 crore.

The children have sought recognition as legal heirs and demanded a onefifth share each of the estate.

Following his death, Samaira and Kiaan performed his last rites, with Kiaan lighting the funeral pyre at Lodhi Cremation Ground on June 19. However, according to their legal complaint, Priya allegedly began restricting their access to documents and financial records related to the family trust shortly after the funeral.

Meanwhile, Priya’s lawyer has reportedly alleged that the petition by the children does not mention that the “acrimonious divorce proceedings ended up in the Supreme Court” between Karisma and Sunjay.

Referencing Karisma, Priya was quoted as saying: “I am a widow. I was his last lawfully wedded wife. Where were you? Your husband left you many years ago.”

She further submitted: “Please have some sympathy for the soul of the deceased. I (Priya) have a 6-year-old child… You (Karisma) were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years.”

During the hearing, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur reportedly objected to the will.

“My son today leaves me with not a roof on my head? I am 80 years old,” she reportedly told the court. “Today I have nothing. I have written at least 15 emails asking about the will, what are the documents. Not a word has been shared. I have been told that my emails have been compromised. There is something incredibly unholy. Rs 10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine.”

Adding to the complexity, latest reports point to fresh evidence that indicates that Sunjay had been assisting Karisma Kapoor and their children in pursuing Portuguese citizenship. It has emerged that the documents include exchanges where Sunjay explained to Karisma that obtaining an overseas passport would require her to relinquish Indian nationality since India does not permit dual citizenship.

A certain section of the media accessed WhatsApp conversations that reveal discussions between the two. It raised questions whether they were really that distant.

In her pomp, Karisma Kapoor stood among the highest-paid actors. Reports indicate that during that period, she commanded fees of Rs 50–70 lakh per film. She reportedly charged close to Rs 1 crore for the family drama Hum Saath Saath Hain.

She earned a spot at number 77 on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list.

According to another report, she also received possession of a luxurious bungalow in Mumbai. It had been gifted to her by Sunjay’s father during the marriage, along with the return of her jewellery.

These settlements, along with her earnings from films and brand endorsements, have played a huge role in creating her wealth.
