Europe Has 20 Unicorns, India Has More Than 100: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, interacted with students at the India campus of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute. He also honoured innovative startups with awards and interacted with the IT students.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, who is in Gujarat, told the students that the people of Gujarat do not need EDIs. Business is in the blood of Gujarat. Earlier, he said that under the government of PM Modi, people have started talking about startups. He informed the gathering that there are more than 5,00 startups in India.

Railway Minister Vaishnav applauded the UPI system. He said, “PM Modi came up with a public digital platform and open-source software. Thousands of startups have joined the portal. Even big companies like Google have adopted the UPI system.”

Further, he discussed the Digital Health Mission and called it a hub for thousands of startups. He said that education and agriculture are also in line to have a similar hub. He took pride in informing the crowd that there are only 20 unicorns in Europe while there are 106 in India.

“Startups are joining hands with the government. In addition, the Defense Ministry has joined us. They have also started strengthening startups,” the IT Minister said. Ashwini Vaishnaw said they are building a bullet train in Rajkot using South Korean technology.

The Railway Minister also tried to talk to the students in Gujarati. At the beginning of the event, he came from the podium to give an award to a disabled startup founder.
