The Experts on JN.1 advices to Prepare, Not Panic!
The emergence of the new JN.1 sub-variant of the Covid-19 virus has raised concerns globally, with 22 cases reported in India. Despite being more transmissible, experts state that JN.1 is not causing severe infections or hospitalizations, and symptoms are similar to previous cases. The Health Ministry reports 3,742 active cases in India, with 752 new infections last week.
The sub-variant, a descendant of BA.2.86, carries the L455S mutation in the spike protein. While JN.1 is classified as a variant of interest by the WHO, experts emphasize no need for panic, and the reported cases are mostly mild upper respiratory tract infections.
