Fuel Shortage At Ahmedabad Petrol Pumps: People Leave Empty-Tanked

| Updated: June 14, 2022 15:05

The petrol pumps in Ahmedabad are experiencing a short supply of fuel due to the hike in petroleum prices in the international market. Such a shortage is creating a hassle for city residents.

Ahmedabad dealers of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) say that supply for the past three days has been only 50% of normal. They have urged the BPCL and HPCL to maintain adequate supplies, as petrol stations barely manage a half-day’s worth of sales.

Nakul Patel, owner of Super Service Station in Maninagar, informed that the day-to-day consumption of petrol is around 30k litres. However, in the past few days, the daily supply has ranged from 10-15k litres from HPCL.

Even though the central government decreased the fuel price by a few rupees, the supply remains irregular. Nevertheless, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) dealer pumps of Ahmedabad did not report any stockpile problems. It indicates the better position of IOCL than HPCL and BPCL based on the supply to their dealers across Gujarat.

The commuters had to return from Petrol Pumps at SG Highway with lost hopes to find fuel for their vehicles. The President of Gujarat Petroleum Dealers’ Association (FGPDA) admitted that Ahmedabad is facing a fuel shortage. According to the sources in the FGPDA, the organisation is contemplating its next step. The fuel shortage can severely affect their businesses and lead to people losing trust in their pumps.
