Gandhi Ashram Redevelopment: Yatra Opposing Project Reaches Ahmedabad

Commenced from Sevagram ashram in Wardha on October 17, the ‘Sevagram Sabarmati Sandesh Yatra’ arrived at Ahmedabad on Saturday. The yatra was started by the Gandhian followers to oppose the state government’s redevelopment project of Gandhi Ashram.

The Gandhian followers who undertook the journey held a public meeting after the yatra at the Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad. They said that through this yatra, they wish to convey their opposition to the redevelopment of a symbol of tranquillity – the Gandhi Ashram. “We do not want the Sabarmati Ashram to be world-class,” they added.

Sharing the information on social media, one of the participants of the Journey – Manishi Jani took to Facebook and said, “In the meeting held in the hall of Gujarat Vidyapeeth on the occasion of Sevagram Sabarmati Sandesh Yatra, we hereby unanimously oppose the decision of ‘Government Committee’ to redevelop the Gandhi Ashram.”
