Gandhi Mahila College Principal Asked To Resign Over Notice To Students

| Updated: June 27, 2022 15:11

The principal of Gandhi Mahila Arts & Commerce College in Bhavnagar, Ranjanbala Gohil, has been asked to resign after she issued a notice asking all the girl students to become members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) electoral page committee. This notice attracted a lot of flak from the authorities, especially from the Congress party, who has demanded serious action against the principal.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) leader Girirajsinh Vala has shunned this action from the principal. He said that strict action must be taken against not just the principal but also the trustee.

The trustees of the college were surprised when the notice was issued and called a meeting immediately. They decided to speak to Gohil and discuss the matter. Later on, the trustees asked her to resign from her position.

The notice, issued on June 24, states that all the students should bring their passport-sized photos and mobile phone to join the BJP committee. The notice, which was obtained by an English publication, makes special mention of the female students and asks girls to note the matter.

Smt. N. C. Gandhi and Smt. B. V. Gandhi Mahila Arts and Commerce College was established in 1951, with the aim of providing quality education to the girls in Saurashtra.
