East Kutch Police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) has seized Indian-made English liquor worth Rs15,000 from a shop in Gandhidham. The police had received information from East Kutch LCB, Border Range IG JR Mothalia Saheb and SP Mahendra Bagdia that liquor was being sold at Kesar Arcade adjacent to the Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce.
Riding on the intelligence, the police decided to patrol the area for any such activity. They were able to identify the location that was selling liquor during their watch. Being prepared, the police raided the shop, Namo Tea Point, and found 35 bottles of liquor worth Rs15,000. The police have also detained Jitendra alias Jitu Narayandas Kodwani, who was in the shop. Kodwani is a resident of Adipur town in the city.
This raid is part of the Crime Branch’s operation to crack down on liquor smuggling rackets in Gujarat, which is a dry state. Recently, East Kutch Police seized Rs8.11 lakh worth of liquor from a tanker passing on the Gandhidham-Padana highway. Reportedly, this quantity of liquor was ordered by a well-known bootlegger of Bhachau, Ashok Singh Jadeja alias Mama.
