Get Ready for a Gambling Apps on the Indian Play Store

Gambling Apps on the Indian Play Store

Indian gamers, get ready to roll the dice! Google Play Store is poised to roll out the red carpet for real-money gambling apps like Rummy Circle and Dream11. In a recent announcement, the tech giant revealed a policy shift starting June 2024, welcoming apps that allow wagers on “games of skill” not covered by existing licensing frameworks.

This decision stems from the success of pilot tests in India and Mexico, where popular Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports apps received a warm reception. The pilot also gets a deadline extension – gambling apps currently on the Play Store can stay put until June 30th.

But Google’s ambitions extend beyond Indian borders. The company intends to expand real-money gambling app availability to additional regions, following local regulations and implementing a service fee model for subscriptions and in-app purchases. Details on the fee structure are still under wraps, though.

Remember, not all games are fair in the eyes of the law. In India, skill-based games like Rummy and Dream11 are legal, but regulations vary widely across states. Sikkim, Kerala, and Nagaland play by stricter rules, while Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu have banned such apps altogether.

However, don’t expect a wild west on the Play Store. Google’s policy demands developers to navigate a rigorous approval process, proving they hold a valid license for operating gambling apps in their target regions. So, while the doors are opening, quality control remains a priority.

This policy shift marks a significant development for the Indian gaming landscape. With increased access to real-money gambling apps, the entertainment landscape is set to evolve, bringing both opportunities and challenges. Whether it’s a win-win situation for players, developers, and regulators remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: the game is changing.
