| Updated: July 18, 2022 17:04

With 178 out of 182 MLAs, the Presidential Voting started in Gandhinagar at the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha. On Monday, the eligible voters began casting their votes at 10 AM amid tight security.

After voting, Sukhram Rathva, the opposition supremo in Gujarat Legislative Assembly, spoke on behalf of Congress and said they want a President that holds constitutional values. Moreover, he added that the President must ensure proper law and order in the nation.

Further, Gujarat Education Minister, Jitu Vaghani, seemed confident about NDA Candidate Draupadi Murmu’s victory in the elections with a margin.

Parimal Nathwani, Andhra Pradesh MP and representative of YSR Congress Party in the Parliament also voted at the Gujarat Assembly on Monday noon. The other MLAs that voted on Monday include 111 from BJP, 63 from Congress, two from BTP, one from NCP, and one independent.

As per the sources, the Gujarat MLA from NCP, Kandhal Jadeja, also voiced his support for the NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu. After casting his vote, the sole representative of the NCP and son of ‘Godmother’ Santokben Jadeja revealed that he voted for a tribal woman leader.

The former Deputy CM of Gujarat was also seen voting during the Presidential polls. As Ram Nath Kovind’s reign as President ends on July 24, India is gearing up to choose its new President.
