Blame it on rising prices or just the need to stock up on provisions at home, but a cashier at Nikol’s Dmart stands guilty of “passing off” a cart load of items to his mother. Neither were the items billed nor were they scanned. Suspicion is also being raised at the effectiveness of the scanners installed at the grocery store’s exit points.
Akash Rajput, was employed as a cashier at the outlet five months ago. Suspecting foul play, co-worker Maulik Shah looked up records only to find that Rajput’s mother paid a small amount for a huge “cartload” of items. On checking the payment details, Shah realised that while some items had not been billed at all, most had not even been scanned.
The store manager at DMart was notified and on checking CCTV monitors, the fraud came to light. A case has been initiated against the young man and his mother for whisking away unaccounted items worth Rs 13,000.
