Guj CM Bhupendra Patel Inaugurates The International Kite Festival 2023

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the 2023 International Kite Festival today. On this occasion, AMC luminaries including Ahmedabad Mayor Kirit Parmar were also present. Gujarat hosted the first edition of the International Kite Festival in 1989.

The International Kite Festival was officially launched in Ahmedabad by the then CM Narendra Modi, who is currently India’s Prime Minister, after 23 years. Gujarat has celebrated its annual kite festival every year.

CM Bhupendra Patel said, “The tradition of kite festival started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become a global identity today. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the development of kites in Gujarat has been crossing new heights for two consecutive decades.”

Speaking about the kite industry of Gujarat, he said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new tradition of celebrating our traditional festivals and festivals as folk festivals with public participation. As a result of this, two decades ago, the trade of kites in Gujarat was only Rs 8 to Rs 10 crore, now the kite industry in Gujarat alone accounts for 40 per cent sales in the country. The annual turnover is Rs 625 crore and around 1,30,000 people are employed in the kite industry.”

The International Kite Festival 2023 will take place in Australia, Canada, France, Russia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Colombia, Denmark, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Belgium, Bahrain, Iraq, Malaysia, Poland, Mauritius, and will feature kites from 68 different nations, including Portugal, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Jordan, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Belarus, and 14 states of India.
