Parents of nearly 100 students from Surat district recently urged the CM to take necessary steps

The Gujarat government has contacted the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to find out what arrangements have been made to bring back students from Gujarat who are in violence-hit Kyrgyzstan.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday asked state chief secretary Raj Kumar to coordinate with the MEA to ensure safety of students, according to a government release.

Parents of nearly 100 students from Surat district recently urged the CM to take necessary steps to ensure safe return of their children. The Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan is reportedly  in constant touch with universities and government officials. Two helpline numbers are also operational.

Riya Lathia, a second-year medical student of Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA) in Bishkek, appealed to the authorities in a video to evacuate all Indian students as soon as possible.

As many as 17,000 students from India, including Gujarat, are in Kyrgyzstan at present for medical and other higher studies.
