Organ donation is a noble act that can save lives and improve the quality of life for many people. In Gujarat, Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad has emerged as a leader in this field, with 359 organs donated in the last two years. This data was revealed by the state health minister in the legislative assembly on Thursday.
The hospital witnessed a significant increase in cadaver donations for organ retrieval, from 42 in 2023 to 70 in 2022. Out of the 359 organs donated, kidneys were the most common, with 199 donations, followed by livers, with 94 donations.
The state government has been encouraging organ donation by providing financial incentives to hospitals where organ donations are carried out. The minister said that up to Rs 50,000 is given to such hospitals to cover the expenses of organ retrieval and transportation.
