Gujarat Gets Bigger BJP Role: 4 Leaders Join Party’s New National Team

The Bharatiya Janata Party has given Gujarat a significant presence in its newly announced national team under party president Nitin Nabin, with four leaders from the state receiving key organisational responsibilities.

Varsha Doshi has been appointed a national vice-president, while Jagdish Patel and Rohan Gupta have been named national secretaries. Hemang Joshi, meanwhile, has been appointed president of the BJP’s national youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

The appointments come as the BJP prepares for a busy political period, with the party seeking to strengthen its organisation ahead of upcoming Assembly elections, including in major states such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Four Gujarat Leaders Get National Roles

The BJP’s new national team includes a mix of experienced politicians and younger leaders. The party has appointed 13 national vice-presidents, eight national general secretaries and several national secretaries and other office-bearers.

From Gujarat, Varsha Doshi has received the highest-ranking position among the four by being appointed national vice-president.

Jagdish Patel and Rohan Gupta will serve as national secretaries, while Hemang Joshi will lead the BJP’s youth organisation at the national level.

The appointments give Gujarat representation across different levels of the party’s national structure.

Varsha Doshi: From Municipal Politics to National Leadership

At 66, Varsha Doshi brings several decades of political experience to her new national role.

Her political journey began with municipal politics. She was first elected as a municipal councillor in 1995 and later served as president of the district Mahila Morcha for two terms.

Doshi went on to become an MLA from Wadhwan, representing the constituency in 2007 and 2017.

She was appointed a BJP state vice-president in 2021 and also served as a member of the party’s state parliamentary board earlier this year.

Her appointment as national vice-president now takes her political career to the national level.

Jagdish Patel Gets National Secretary Role

Jagdish Patel, 61, has also been included in the BJP’s national organisation.

Patel has been associated with politics in Gujarat for several years and represented the Amraiwadi Assembly constituency in Ahmedabad between 2019 and 2022.

The seat later fell vacant after BJP MLA Hasmukh Patel was elected to the Lok Sabha.

Patel was also appointed vice-chairman of the municipal school board in Vadodara, adding an organisational and civic administration experience to his political profile.

Rohan Gupta’s Move From Congress to BJP

Rohan Gupta, 48, is another Gujarat leader who has now received a national responsibility.

Gupta began his political career with the ABVP and subsequently held several positions in the state and national organisations of the Congress. He joined the BJP in 2024.

His appointment as a national secretary marks a significant step in his political journey and places him within the BJP’s national organisational structure.

Hemang Joshi to Lead BJP’s Youth Wing

Among the younger Gujarat leaders, Hemang Joshi has received an important responsibility as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Joshi, 35, was elected as a Lok Sabha member from Vadodara in 2024. His political journey began through the ABVP, giving him an organisational background in student and youth politics.

His elevation to the national youth wing comes at a time when the BJP is looking to strengthen its connection with younger voters and expand its organisational network among the youth.

BJP’s New Team Combines Experience and Younger Leaders

The appointments reflect the BJP’s attempt to combine long political experience with younger leadership.

Former Union minister Smriti Irani has returned to a prominent organisational role as one of the party’s eight national general secretaries. Senior leaders such as Ram Madhav, a prominent RSS-linked political figure, have also been given important responsibilities as national vice-president.

Former Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat, Lok Sabha MP D Purandeshwari and Vasundhara Raje Scindia are among the other prominent leaders included in the new structure.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer.

The party has also sought to maintain representation of women among its senior organisational appointments.

Why the New Team Matters

The new appointments are more than a routine organisational reshuffle. The BJP’s national office-bearers will play an important role in coordinating the party’s activities across states, strengthening the organisation and preparing for upcoming elections.

For Gujarat, the inclusion of four leaders is particularly significant. While Doshi brings long experience in municipal, state and party organisation, Patel and Gupta bring political and organisational experience from different backgrounds. Joshi represents a younger generation of leadership and will now have a national platform through the BJP’s youth organisation.

A Brief Background

The BJP’s new national team has been announced under Nitin Nabin, who took charge as the party’s national president. The appointments are aimed at building a leadership structure that combines seniority, organisational experience, women leaders and younger faces.

With several important Assembly elections ahead, the new team is expected to take on a key role in expanding the party’s organisational reach and managing its political campaign and strategy across the country.
