Results Declared, But Marksheet Delays Continue; Authorities Say New Features Taking More Time

| Updated: May 21, 2026 08:31

Even though the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board announced the Class 10 and 12 examination results nearly two weeks ago, lakhs of students across Gujarat are still waiting for their original marksheets and certificates.

This unexpected delay has created stress among students and parents, especially because these documents are essential for college admissions, higher education applications, or even applying for studies abroad, and for the verification process.

The Class 12 Science and General stream results were declared on May 5, while the Class 10 SSC results were announced on May 8. Around 16.5 lakh students appeared for these examinations. In previous years, students usually received their marksheets within three to four days, or at most within a week after the results were announced. However, this year, the delay has stretched much longer than expected.

As per media reports, the main reason behind the delay is the introduction of new security features in the marksheets and certificates. GSHSEB added QR codes for easier verification and an extra laminated security layer to prevent tampering or duplication. While these features improve document security, they also made the printing process more complex and time-consuming.

Reports further suggest that the printing work was outsourced to an agency in Hyderabad. Due to coordination issues between the agencies involved in preparing and dispatching the documents, the process was slowed down. The information suggests that the mark sheets were ready only about a week after the examination, which became another factor adding to the delay.

On the other hand, as the days pass, anxiety among students is increasing, as many fear that the delay could affect their admission process and future academic plans. With growing pressure, GSHSEB officials announced that the mark sheets and certificates would begin reaching schools by May 20, and students are expected to receive them by May 23.

This means students will receive their official documents nearly 20 days after the declaration of the results, much later than the usual timeline.

While the board has cited new security upgrades and coordination problems as the cause, the delay has caused inconvenience and concern for many students across the state.
