In an attempt to end the routine fight, two brothers Vijay and Viraj Bapodara allegedly killed their 45-year-old liquor-addict father Lakhman Bapodara, with an axe on the night of August 25, 2022 and buried his body in a pit made for a biogas plant in Jarudi, an area located in Ranavav taluka in Porbandar district.
Gujarat Police arrested the two accused based on a complaint filed by their grandfather Dudhabhai Bapodara, father of the deceased.
Later Dudhabhai approached the local police on August 26 alleging that his grandson Vijay has murdered Lakhman Bapodara with an axe and buried his body in a pit nearby. Based on the preliminary information, cops detained 24-year-old Vijay and sent a lookout team to get the body of the deceased on the alleged spot.
After receiving the body from the said spot as described by the complainant, the local police shifted the body to Jamnagar district along with the forensic report and later exhumed it in the presence of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
Following which, police registered a case of murder against Vijay (under section 300, 302 and 201) for killing his father intentionally.
“Vijay revealed that his father was an alcoholic and would come home drunk often. He further said that his father would also beat him and his mother over petty issues. On August 26, when Lakhman came home drunk again and started fighting with Vijay, he got agitated and hit him with an axe. Seeing this, Vijay’s brother Viraj Bapodara also attacked Lakhman with a sickle,” police officials said.
The brothers then took their father’s body and buried it in a pit made of a biogas plant near their house, cops added.
The investigation is underway.
