A 41-year-old man and his father were detained for allegedly celebrating by firing in the air during a wedding procession in their village in Gujarat’s Amreli district.

The main defendant, a farmer by trade, and his father, 63, were both charged with violations of the relevant Arms Act provisions. According to a statement from the Amreli police, the latter’s name was on the gun licence and his son was not permitted to use the pistol.

The incident happened on Thursday morning in the Savarkundla district’s Moldi village. The accused is seen firing in the air with his father’s double-barrel rifle in a video that went viral on social media platforms as soon as a villager’s wedding procession came close to the accused’s home. The procession continues after the celebratory shooting has ended.

The father-son duo was detained for violating the Arms Act after the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Amreli police was notified about the shooting incident, according to the release, which also stated that the pistol was recovered.
