Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, while inaugurating the first meeting of the Tourism Working Group (TWG) being held under the chairmanship of India’s G20 at Dhordo in Kutch on Wednesday, made it clear that collective reflection in the TWG meeting will give a new direction and energy to the sector.
Referring to tourism in development, the Chief Minister said that the GDP of the country and the world is an important contribution of this sector.
Referring to the steps being taken to make Gujarat a prosperous economy, he said that under the new tourism policy, a special approach to environmental prosperity has been adopted along with the development of this region in the state.
He said the Kutch earthquake had claimed many lives and destroyed thousands of houses. But the tireless efforts of the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi have turned the disaster into an opportunity. As a result of his guidance, Kutch has not only stood up again but is also moving forward at a fast pace on the path of development.
The Prime Minister has given an important place to the Rann of Kutch in the tourism map of the world.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started Rann Utsav in Kutch considering the immense potential of tourism along with industrial development, which has become a centre of attraction for tourists from all over the world today. Referring to the five priorities of the Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting, the Chief Minister said that one of these priorities is also ‘Green Tourism’. The ‘Smriti Van Smarak’, built in memory of the earthquake victims of Kutch, is a shining example of green tourism. Fifty check dams and more than 3 lakh saplings have been planted in this smriti van, which has given a new direction to green tourism.
In order to highlight to the world the immense potential of tourism development in the country, several provisions have been made for the development of tourism in this year’s AMRUT Budget under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister has selected 50 tourist destinations in the country through the ‘Challenge Mode’ and announced a plan to develop these sites as a complete package in terms of all aspects including diet and tourist safety.
Describing Gujarat as a ‘tourist friendly state’ full of tourism diversities, Patel elaborated on the efforts being made for the development of tourism and said that Gandhi Circuit, Buddhist Circuit and Vivekananda Circuit are also being developed in the state.

Cabinet Minister Purushottam Rupala said Kutch has rich geographical diversity including Rann, sea and mountains. It is a privilege for us that the G20 meeting is being held in Kutch, which has become a hub of tourism. The G20 Presidency will further accelerate the journey towards building an all-inclusive, inclusive and prosperous India.
Referring to the tourism potential of India, Rupala said that India’s cultural and geographical diversities, world-class tourism attractions, eco-tourism, green tourism and agri-tourism provide unique experiences to tourists. He said that the development of tourism creates new employment and also leads to all-around development of that area from the economic and social point of view.

Describing tourism as an important part of the country’s growth engine, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said 6.9 million tourists visited India in 2022. There are many variations of tourism in India, then the country is developing in the right direction as a tourism hub. He said that the National Tourism Mission has also been created along with the new tourism policy for the development of the state.
State Chief Secretary Rajkumar, Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of India Arvind Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Mona Khandhar, representatives of G20 countries along with top officials of other departments were present in the meeting.
