Gujarat: CM Patel Holds Meeting To Address Lumpy Skin Disease

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting in Gandhinagar to review the status of Lumpy Skin Disease in Gujarat’s livestock. The CM announced free vaccinations for cattle within five kilometres of the affected village. According to the reports, 15 districts in Gujarat have reported the disease outbreak.

He ordered the Department of Animal Husbandry to carry out emergency treatment and vaccination operations, especially in the affected areas. He also directed the officials to take the necessary actions to control the spread of the Lumpy Skin Disease in animals.

Lumpy Skin Disease is a viral infection in cattle like cows and buffaloes. The disease has spread across 116 villages in Gujarat, and 4,143 cattle have died due to the same.

According to government data, the officials have vaccinated around three lakh animals to prevent the disease. They have also isolated the infected animals. Many other state ministers were present during the meeting on Lumpy Skin Disease.

CM Bhupendra Patel also assigned a veterinary officer and 438 livestock inspectors to the affected areas. The Department of Animal Husbandry made a detailed presentation on the measures to control and treat the Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle stock.

The officials also took 269 additional services like mobile veterinary clinics and Karuna Ambulance to the impacted regions.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also informed that they created a 24/7 helpline on the toll-free number 196. If people have queries regarding Lumpy Skin Diseases, they can call the given number. The number connects them to the control room of GVK-EMRI.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel focused on the measures given by the GOI to prevent the outbreak of the disease. The CM also ordered the officials to regulate the presence of ticks, flies, fleas, and mosquitoes, especially in the affected areas.

He also urged the officials to give instructions on the cleanliness and disinfection of places that come in animal contact. Raghavjibhai Patel, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, gave more details on the work by the Animal Husbandry department. He also emphasised the control and awareness of the disease with the support of local administration.
