Gujarat Congress Launches Campaign Against Unemployment, Inflation

| Updated: November 22, 2021 12:17

Amidst the non-veg lorries tussle, the Gujarat Congress launched a campaign against unemployment, fuel prices and inflation in Gujarat. The campaign named the Jan Abhiyan (mass campaign) comes on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee’s (GPCC) interim President Amit Chavda launched the campaign with a “pad yantra” from the market area in Khokhra at the old city Ahmedabad. While launching the campaign, he interacted with the shopkeepers and the street vendors regarding inflation and fuel prices on Sunday afternoon. Earlier, the Gujarat Congress had planned to launch the Jan Abhiyan campaign from November 14 to November 29 across Gujarat against the “arrogance, incompetence and lies” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“The Gujarat Congress has started their campaign against rising prices of diesel, petrol, CNG gas, LPG and edible oil. The public is feeling harassed by inflation and the collapse of businesses in Gujarat. There is widespread anger among the people against the BJP government and they are ready for a change,” said Chavda.

This comes after the Gujarat Congress recently stated that around 15 lakh Gujarat citizens were pushed into poverty during the Covid 19 pandemic. In a press conference conducted at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Paldi of Ahmedabad, Chavda informed that more than 15 lakh people were pushed into poverty in the past one year. He accused the government of ensuring free availability of liquor through “jugaad system” and increasing the supply of drugs by not giving employment to the youth.

“Today, Gujarat coastline is being used to smuggle drugs in huge amounts and every metropolitan city and village of the state is being supplied the narcotics in a systematic manner by the government,” said Amit Chavda.

He further added that because of the failed economic policies of the Gujarat government, lakhs of people were left unemployed and many other small scale industries and businesses had collapsed.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Congress has also announced a campaign against the BJP and an enrollment drive for the Congress party at Deodar in Banaskantha on Monday. Along with Chavda, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Gujarat, Raghu Sharma, interim leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani, former MP Jagdish Thakor and former GPCC President Baratsinh Solanki will also be attending the event.
