Gujarat: Congress’s Screening Committee To Hold Its First Meeting On September 5

| Updated: August 26, 2022 15:56

Gujarat’s Congress Party is ready to enter fray with its new strategy and past learnings. Known to declare candidates at the end moment, Gujarat Congress plans to declare 100 candidates even before the notification arrives.

Gujarat Congress in-charge Raghu Sharma mentioned, on Friday, that the first Screening Committee meeting will take place on September 5 at 6 PM. According to the former Health Minister of Rajasthan, the leaders will decide the criteria to provide election tickets. Congress is likely to release the first list before September 15.

In Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party has gained an edge over others as they declared 19 candidates. On the other hand, the ruling party in Gujarat, BJP, will also start the selection of candidates after the notification issue.

The All India Congress Committee has constructed a three-member screening committee ahead of the Gujarat polls. The screening committee of Gujarat includes Ramesh Chennithala (member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly), Shivajirao Moghe (Advocate and politician from Maharashtra), and Jai Kishan (Former member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly). Gujarat Legislative Elections are likely to take place in December 2022.

The AICC has also included ex-officio members Raghu Sharma (General Secretary in charge of Gujarat), Jagdish Thakor (GPCC President), and Sukhram Rathva (CLP Leader). On August 25, the party declared the Gujarat Congress Election Committee, including 39 members.

Jagdish Thakor said, “Inflation, unemployment, and drugs have troubled the people of Gujarat. So there will be a shutdown on September 10. The ‘bandh’ time will be from 8 AM to 12 PM. Congress workers will take to the streets to make the bandh successful.”

The Congress leaders will also visit their Assembly booths from September 24-26 to fix the weakest link of booth management. Furthermore, the party has set a target of 10,000 houses in every Assembly to establish direct connectivity. On September 5, Rahul Gandhi will address the booth in charge of Gujarat in Ahmedabad.
