Gujarat: ED Arrests Deputy Mamlatdar In Surendranagar Land Scam Probe

| Updated: December 24, 2025 14:16

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into a suspected multi-crore land scam in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, arresting deputy mamlatdar Chandrasingh Mori following extensive searches and questioning.

Mori was taken into custody after ED teams carried out coordinated raids across multiple locations on Tuesday. The agency is expected to produce him before a special court at the Ahmedabad Rural Court on Thursday and seek a 14-day remand to deepen the probe.

Teams from Maharashtra, Delhi and Bengaluru participated in the operation, which began early Tuesday morning. Searches were conducted at premises linked to Surendranagar District Collector Rajendra Patel, Mori, NA branch clerk Mayursingh Gohil, the collector’s personal assistant Jayrajsingh Jadeja (at his Lakhtar residence), and advocate D Chetan Kanzariya.

Sources said the ED initiated the action after receiving complaints alleging serious irregularities in land acquisition and the conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural (NA) use. Investigators are scrutinising a large volume of official records and transaction documents as part of the case.

During the course of the inquiry, ED officials also summoned officers from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and questioned a jeweller, pointing to suspected high-value transactions involving cash or assets.

Significantly, the crackdown comes just days after the district administration dismantled the NA branch. Three days before the raids, Collector Rajendra Patel transferred deputy mamlatdar Mori and clerk Gohil with immediate effect, a move that has raised questions about whether there was prior knowledge of the impending enforcement action.

The ED is continuing its investigation to identify the full scope of the alleged scam and the roles of all those involved.
