The Gujarat Government on Friday issued a notification restricting the timing for bursting crackers during upcoming festivals. The state home department in the notification allowed the burning of crackers in a two-hour window during Diwali. The release has also allotted the timings for Christmas and New Year festivals.
The release stated, “In Diwali, the firecrackers can be lit from 8 PM to 10 PM in Diwali and 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM during Christmas and New Year.
“The SC has permitted for production and sale of only approved crackers or green crackers that creates less pollution. Also, all other crackers are banned by the SC including the series crackers and joint firecrackers as they make a loud sound and create pollution,” the release further stated.
Also, the government has allowed only licensed shopkeepers to sell firecrackers and the sale/purchase of crackers on e-commerce websites is prohibited. If any shopkeeper or street vendor is found selling the crackers without a license then action will be taken against them under Explosives Act.
