Gujarat Heatwave Alert: Temperatures To Cross 40°C In Several Regions

| Updated: March 2, 2026 16:54

Summer has tightened its grip on Gujarat, with temperatures climbing steadily across the state and no immediate relief in sight.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the mercury is likely to stay above normal in the coming days, raising concerns about heat-related health risks and disruption to daily routines.

Over the past few days, maximum temperatures have shown a consistent upward trend. According to forecasts, this pattern is expected to continue through the coming week. Afternoon hours, especially between late morning and early evening, may see reduced outdoor movement as residents try to avoid peak heat.

Major urban centres including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat are likely to experience particularly high temperatures. In parts of North and Central Gujarat, the mercury could cross the 40°C mark. Kutch and Dwarka are also expected to face intense heat conditions through March.

March Outlook And Monsoon Hopes

Meteorological projections suggest that March will remain warmer than usual across the state. While the immediate forecast points to above-normal maximum temperatures, there is encouraging news on the longer-term outlook. Weather experts anticipate a favourable monsoon season this year, which could help offset the early heat stress being felt now.

With temperatures rising sharply, authorities and health experts have urged citizens to take preventive measures to avoid dehydration and heatstroke.

The key precautions include drinking plenty of fluids such as water, buttermilk, lemon water or oral rehydration solutions (ORS) to maintain hydration. It has also been recommended to wear r loose, light-coloured cotton clothing to reduce heat absorption and avoid stepping out between 11 am and 4 pm unless absolutely necessary. If outdoors, cover your head with a cap, scarf or umbrella.

Elderly individuals and young children are particularly vulnerable to dehydration and heat exhaustion. Families are advised to monitor them closely and ensure they remain well-hydrated.

As Gujarat transitions firmly into summer, residents may need to adjust schedules and routines to cope with soaring temperatures. With forecasts pointing to sustained heat, preparedness and caution will be essential in the weeks ahead.
