Ahmedabad police have arrested Jayesh, the main accused in the Gujarat hooch tragedy, from Piplaj area of the city. The accused had provided the chemical Methanol, which was mixed into the country-made liquor. Consumption of this spurious liquor by people in Barwala taluka has led to the death of more than 57 people. As many as 150 people have been hospitalized and many of these are in critical condition.
Jayesh allegedly supplied 600 litres of Methanol to the bootleggers, of which the police have seized nearly 450 litres of the chemical. It is believed that the accused procured the chemical from AMOS Chemical Company.
A team of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Crime Branch has reached the company and investigating the matter.
