The Center for Heritage Conservation in CEPT University is now recognized as one of the expert heritage bodies by the National Monuments Authority under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
All nationally protected monuments have a 300-meter area around them demarcated as protected and regulated area. Each of these sites is unique and needs some generic and some specific bye-laws. With rapid urbanization, development, growth and increasing population pressure, there is growing pressure on land, including the land around centrally protected monuments. As this often affects the monument/site, it is important that such growth around the centrally protected monuments is properly regulated, balancing the needs of individuals, growth and development on the one hand, and the requirements of preservation and protection of these monuments on the other.
The National Monuments Authority has since long been looking at this aspect and hope to address it with the engagement of these expert bodies across the country.
Other such expert heritage bodies include centers at IITs and NITs, Center for Historical Houses at O P Jindal Global University, Urban Design Research Institute, etc. 34 such bodies across the country have been recently identified
