Gujarat Only State Where It Took Over 18 Years To Build Metro Rail, Claims Congress

| Updated: September 30, 2022 18:58

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project and took a metro ride from Kalupur station to Doordarshan Kendra metro station on Friday.  Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee has raised questions about the 18 years of delay of the metro project. The estimated project cost of the metro was Rs 3,500 crore, but today the project stands at Rs 12,787 crore. The cost has increased four times.

Chief Spokesperson of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee Manish Doshi said, “To bring about a radical change in the urban development sector in the country, especially to provide facilities to the urban citizens, the Congress government implemented the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM). Today, the government takes more than 18 years to finish a project. Even the project cost has increased four times. Who is responsible for this?”

“Gujarat is the only state in the country where metro trains took over 18 years to become operational. The initial project cost of the metro train was announced as 3,500 crores, today the project cost has increased four times to 12,787 crores and the work of the project has not yet been completed. The company handling the metro project, filed for bankruptcy.” adds Doshi.
