Gujarat: Pre-Monsoon Activities To Continue For Next Few Days; Southwest Monsoon Likely To Reach State By This Date

| Updated: June 11, 2022 08:37

The majority of regions in Gujarat, for the last few days now, have started witnessing pre-monsoon activities from Tuesday, June 7. After a spell of high temperatures, the citizens of the state got a respite from it with light rainfall and thunderstorms in some and a cloudy atmosphere in the rest of the regions.

However, the highest maximum temperature in Gujarat on Friday was reported to be 42 Degrees Celsius in Surendranagar followed by Ahmedabad with a maximum temperature of 41.5 Degrees Celsius and the citizens continued to sizzle at the high temperatures.

In a relief to this, the pre-monsoon activities are expected for the coming five days in Gujarat with North and South Gujarat with Saurashtra are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next few days, stated the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its statement released on Friday.

According to the weather forecasting department, isolated regions in Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Dang, Vadodara, Valsad and Tapi are expected to receive light rain with winds at the speed of 30-40 kph for the next five days.

The southwest monsoon made its landfall in Kerala on May 29, three days earlier than the usually expected date – June 1. However, the speed of the southwest monsoon has been reduced and is now moving on the usual schedule and speed.

The southwest monsoon, which has already crossed North Karnataka and Goa, has now entered Maharashtra. Generally, Gujarat witnesses the onset of the Monsoon by mid-June or by the last week of the month. Looking at the current speed and location of the southwest monsoon, the state is expected to receive it by June 15 this year.
