Nikita Chandwani, a 19-year-old daughter of a textile trader, has made her family and the city of Surat proud by excelling in the Company Secretary Professional Program exam in India.
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), which administers the test, released the results on Thursday.
In her first attempt, Chandwani scored 576 out of 900 points, earning her the top overall ranking in India. She likely holds the record for the youngest person in the nation to pass the CS Professional Programme exam.
“I am overjoyed with the result. I was expecting a good rank but was not sure that I would score top in the country,” Chandwani told TOI.
She has been answering calls from friends, relatives and colleagues since the results were announced. Her teacher is also overjoyed with her success.
Her father Ramesh Chandwani said: “We are very happy that a girl from our family scored the highest marks in the exam. Her mother trusted her abilities and we all supported her.”
About her preparation, Chandwani said she used to study for four to five hours a day, apart from attending the coaching. “Focusing on studies in the past few years has helped me,” she said.
She attended Sanskar Bharti School for her formal education and is now a BCom student at SPB College.
The family of Chandwani just moved to the city from the Junagadh district where they had previously lived.
