Gujarat To Host 2022 National Games

| Updated: June 30, 2022 13:27

This year’s National Games have been postponed several times so far due to varied reasons and there has also been debate over which state could host them. From Uttarakhand to Meghalaya the candidates have been many, but no real winner has yet come up. In this scenario, Goa has informed Indian Olympic Association (IOA) that it would not be able to host these games this year.

As such, it is believed that Gujarat will be hosting 2022 National Games in September-October. According to sources, the government of Gujarat had written to the IOA and said that the state was prepared to host the games without any problems. Apparently, IOA has accepted Gujarat’s proposal, as the officials think that the state has the capability to provide the required infrastructure and other top-class facilities.

The state’s proposal is yet to be approved by the higher-ups, the sources said. However, the IOA has received a green signal from National Sports Federation (NSF) and other bodies. The IOA will be calling a General Body Meeting to take several important decisions, including the venue of this year’s National Games.

The last National Games were held in Kerala in 2015 and Goa was supposed to host the 36th edition in November 2016. The games, however, were delayed in 2018 and 2019, and the Games were finally planned for 2020. This is when the Games were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
