Gujarat’s Famous International Kite Festival Returns

| Updated: January 7, 2023 14:33

After a two-year long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the International Kite Festival has returned with a bang in Ahmedabad and other cities across Gujarat. The Gujarat Tourism Corporation Ltd will host the International Kite Festival with the theme of G20 in Ahmedabad from January 8th to 14th, 2023. The International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad will bring together kite flyers and enthusiasts from the G20 countries, as well as other participants from around the world.

The International Kite Festival will be inaugurated on January 8th, at 8 a.m., by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devavrat at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. The Honourable Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, and Tourism Minister, Mulubhai Bera, will also be present.

On the first day of the programme, a prayer performance called ‘Aditya Vandana’ will be performed, along with a large demonstration of Suryanamaskar to welcome the sun’s return to the northern hemisphere. This year, kite enthusiasts are attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the most kite enthusiasts from various countries flying kites simultaneously. During the International Kite Festival, all participants will march in a parade wearing G20 T-shirts and caps.

This year, the skies over Gujarat will be adorned with special kites in the shape of India’s G20 Presidency Logo. Besides, people visiting the International Kite Festival will also be able to take pictures and selfies at a special G20 photo booth, consisting of the G20 logo along with the theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.

There will be a pavilion at the International Kite Festival that will display the history of kites and kite-flying traditions from around the world. A kite-making and flying workshop will also be held. Several cultural programmes will be held in the evenings during the International Kite Festival.

India assumed the G20 presidency in December 2022, and several events are being planned to raise awareness of what the G20 means to the people of India, in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of making the G20 a participatory event. The Group of Twenty (G20) is the world’s premier forum for economic cooperation. It is crucial in shaping and strengthening global governance and architecture on all major international economic issues.

From 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, India will preside over the G20. During the Presidency, over 200 meetings and events are planned across India, with Gujarat having the opportunity to host 15 of them in the coming months.
