Gujarat’s Hidden Gem: Explore Vansda National Park

| Updated: January 11, 2023 15:00

The states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala immediately spring to mind when we talk about the Western Ghats and the Sahyadri Range. We rarely recall the Navsari district of Gujarat. Here, amid the Western Ghats’ steep Sahyadri range, is where Vansda National Park or Bansda National Park to be found.

The Dangs forests include the Vansda National Park, which is situated in the Navsari district (Dang district). Along with being close to the towns of Chikhali and Valsad, the national park is situated on the banks of the Ambika River.

The national park is one of Gujarat’s most heavily forested regions. The park is quite well-known, primarily for its breathtaking scenery. The forest is beautiful and lush, particularly during the monsoon season. The Gira waterfall should be seen in all its splendour!

Animals including the leopard, dhole, rusty spotted cat, Indian porcupine, barking deer, striped hyena, and several venomous and non-venomous snake species may be found in Vansda National Park.

However, Vansda’s forests are particularly excellent for bird-watching. For those who have a thing for woodland birds, Vansda is a terrific site to visit because it is home to more than 155 different species of birds.

Common grey hornbills, grey-fronted green pigeons, yellow-backed sunbirds, Malabar trogons, jungle babblers, forest spotted owlets, shamas, and large Indian black woodpeckers are just a few of these birds. Vandsa’s forests owe their beauty to the district’s prohibition against tree cutting since 1952.
