The Gujarat Road Safety Authority has revealed in its latest report that more than 2 lakh commuters were fined for not wearing a helmet in the state in 2021-22. The report, which was presented in the Assembly on Thursday, also showed that nearly 2 lakh drivers were penalized for not using a seat belt and over 1 lakh for using cellphones while driving.
The report also highlighted the trends in road accidents and injuries in the state. According to the data, the number of road accident injuries declined from 27,650 in 2012 to 13,690 in 2021, but increased to 15,136 in 2022.
