Hindu Body That Asked Bus Operators Not To Halt At Muslim Highway Joints, To Now Distribute Daggers to Girls For Self-Defence

| Updated: March 3, 2022 08:19

Less than a month after the gruesome murder of 21-year-old Grishma Vekaria by her jilted lover in full public view in Surat, self-styled Hindu organisation, the International Hindu Parishad (IHP), has announced that as many as 5,000 daggers will be distributed free of charge to Surat girls for self-defense and protection.

Dinesh Anghan, an office-bearer of IHP had in a Facebook post that went viral in Surat on February 25, claimed that he and his organisation would distribute daggers free of cost to more than 5,000 girls in Surat for self-defense and protection from people like Fenil Goyani, who had killed the girl on February 12.

Grishma Vekaria was killed in broad daylight by her jilted lover Fenil in Pasodara on Surat’s outskirts two days ahead of Valentine’s Day. Fenil slit Grishma’s throat in front of her family and around 40 odd people.

Dinesh Anghan had on February 25 claimed that 1,000 daggers would be distributed in a fortnight and the rest later, though sources said this has not yet started. Anghan, however, did not reveal where and where the knives would be distributed.

Soon after Grishma’s murder, the Surat Police started self-defence training programmes in the city schools. Security in schools and colleges have also been beefed up while a close vigil is being kept on elements harassing girls in public places.

Dinesh Anghan, in his social media post, stated that the girls would need to submit affidavits and a copy of their Aadhar cards to avail the daggers and that the entire process would happen with proper permission of the Surat Police.

The girls would also have to give a written assurance that the weapon would only be used for self-defence and if they are harassed by anti-social elements.

Anghan also stated in his social media post that the daggers would be bought from Rajasthan and Punjab and the suppliers had already been tied up.

Vibes of India made several calls to Dinesh Anghan but his number was not reachable while going to print.
