Illegal SIM Card Racket Busted in Anand, Key Suspects Arrested

| Updated: April 12, 2024 18:53

Anand Police have intercepted a shipment of 145 SIM cards, believed to be destined for betting operations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This comes just two weeks after the apprehension of two individuals in Surat with 192 similar cards.

The operation was launched following a tip-off about Chirag Suresh Solanki, a resident of Somabhai Residency in Karamsad, who was allegedly involved in procuring numerous activated Airtel SIM cards under false identities. The joint probe by Anand LCB and SOG led to a raid at Solanki’s residence, where they discovered 145 activated SIM cards registered under various names and addresses, along with 14 debit and credit cards from different banks.

Investigations revealed that Solanki had sourced these SIM cards from Samar Shahidkhan Rathod and Zainulabedeen Ranjitkhan Rathod of Napad Talpad village. He intended to sell them to Jaimin Chiman Thakor, a resident of Karamsad currently based in Dubai, for use in online gaming and betting operations.

A case has been registered at Vallabh Vidyanagar police station under sections 419, 420, 120(b) of the IPC and Section 66© of the IT Act. Following Solanki’s arrest, both Samar Shahidkhan Rathod and Zainulabedeen Ranjitkhan Rathod were also taken into custody. Jaimin Chiman Thakor, believed to be in the UAE, is still at large.
