A 21-member multi-party delegation of MPs of the INDIA party will visit the violent-ridden Manipur and relief camps over the weekend. This is a significant move ahead of the much-publicised no-confidence motion moved by the INDIA alliance against the ruling party, claimed a national newspaper.
The delegation will visit the impacted areas to assess the situation, Congress MP and the party’s whip in Rajya Sabha Naseer Hussain told media outlets.
The delegation includes Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and his colleagues Kodikunnil Suresh, Gogoi, and Phulo Devi Netam.
NCP’s Mohammad Faizal, RJD’s Manoj Kumar Jha, TMC’s Sushmita Dev, DMK’s Kanimozhi, JMM’s Mahua Maji, RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary, N K Premachandran of RSP, and VCK’s T Thirumavalavan among others are part of the delegation.
The Opposition bloc, the report said, had written to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh about the visit. The delegation will be meeting Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on July 30, Hussain said.
The MPs will use helicopters to travel and might also visit the far-flung areas of Churachandpur where more violence has erupted.
“We have got permission from the state government to visit the affected areas and also the relief camps. We have also got permission to meet the Governor, who has allowed time to the delegation on Sunday,” Hussain was quoted as saying.
It’s another attempt by the party to pressure the government into issuing a statement on the crisis in Manipur that has spiralled out of control.
