India Opens Covid-19 Vaccine Registration For Teenagers

| Updated: January 4, 2022 13:12

India on Saturday opened the registration for Covid-19 vaccines for children between the age of 15 to 18 years on the CoWin portal.

“Let’s get ready to ensure COVID vaccination of all eligible citizens. Registrations on #CoWIN for 15-18 year old children starts from 1st January 2022. #LargestVaccineDrive #Unite2FightCorona,” tweeted the Ministry of Health on Friday.

Gujarat has 26.5 lakh teenagers in the 15-18 age group who are eligible for Covid-19 vaccines. Apart from on-site and online registrations, the state government had said that it will set up camps in schools.

As per the Union Government’s guidelines, ‘Covaxin’ will be the only option for the beneficiaries falling between the 15-18 age group. Following Prime Minister Modi’s announcement of inoculating this population category from January 3, 2022, the Union Health Ministry had stated “The Centre will be sending the additional supply of Covaxin to all the states and UTs”.

Guidelines By Union Health Ministry

“All those with the birth year of 2007 or before will be eligible for vaccination under the 15-18 age group category. The beneficiaries can self-register online through an existing account on CoWIN or can also register by creating a new account through a unique mobile number. The beneficiaries can also be registered onsite by the verifier/vaccinator in facilitated registration mode.  Appointments can also be booked onsite (walk-in) when vaccination commences from January 3,”.
