Heavy rains lashed Rajkot last night, where the city saw 9 inches of rainfall in just six hours. The downpour has continued this morning as well, as black clouds gather in the sky. This downpour has disrupted the entire city’s operations, and waterlogging is seen in many areas. Knee-deep waters have been seen on the roads, which has stopped all traffic. Those commuting have suffered damage to vehicles. Many people have had to abandon their vehicles on the roads itself. Schools and colleges have announced rain holidays as it is impossible for students to commute.
In many areas like Popatpara, societies and houses have been flooded with water, so much so that people on the ground and first floors have had to shift to upper levels. Roads in Laludi Vokli have been flooded with knee-deep water. Areas of the city including 150-foot Ring Road, Morbi Road, Ajidem, Racecourse, Yagnik Road, Kalawad Road, University Road, Dhebar Road received light rains since last night, causing water to flow on the roads.
Considering the situation, Rajkot Municipal Corporation has closed Railnagar underbridge, which has 3 to 4 feet of water. Authorities have sent out teams to pump out water at maximum capacity at all bridges.
