Jack Dorsey Steps Down As Twitter CEO, India-Origin CTO Takes Over

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and chief executive of Twitter has resigned from the position. India-origin, the company’s Chief Technology Officer Parag Agarwal will be taking over as the CEO.

Dorsey took to Twitter to release his statement in the matter. He said that he will stay on the board of Twitter until his term expires in 2022.

“I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders,” Dorsey said in the statement. “My trust in Parag as Twitter’s CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I’m deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It’s his time to lead.”
He had previously stepped down as the CEO of the company back in 2008 but returned in 2015. Dorsey is also the head of payments company Square Inc.

Parag Agarwal joined the company in 2011 and has been the Chief Technology Officer since October 2017. He has been responsible for the company’s technical strategy that reportedly led to improving the development velocity along with the advancing state of Machine Learning across the company.

Agarwal holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Jack Dorsey and the entire Twitter team for entrusting him to become the CEO. In the post, he said that he joined the company when there were less than 1000 employees. But Twitter has consistently had an incredible impact and continues to progress.
