Gujarat: Dalit Youth Attacked In Botad, Jignesh Mevani Alleges ‘Upper Caste Goons’ Behind ‘Atrocity’

| Updated: December 31, 2021 14:39

After Dipak Makwana, associated with Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch, was attacked at a hotel near Botad’s Ranpur town on Saturday, the MLA from Vadgam constituency, Jignesh Mevani took to social media and alleged that the 26-year-old was “brutally attacked by upper caste goons”. The social media post by Mevani also shows the photos of injuries sustained by Makwana after the attack.

“As dalits celebrate Manusmriti dahan divas, a dalit youth Dipak Makwana has been brutally attacked by upper caste goons at village Ranpur in Botad district. Yesterday, we eradicated untouchability in a nearby village, today atrocity is committed…,” Mevani twitted on Saturday evening.

However, the Ranpur police station official informed that they are waiting for the victim to gain his consciousness and will file the FIR in a day after receiving the plaint. Along with this he said that they have identified two suspects – Lalo Koliya and Ramo both belonging to Darbar community and possibly are of around 30 years of age. He added that they are yet to determine the possibility of personal or business enmity between the suspects and the victim.
