Know Tathya Patel’s Involvement in Multiple Accidents

| Updated: December 13, 2023 17:55

In a court session on Monday, the state government informed the Gujarat High Court about Tathya Patel’s involvement in multiple accidents over a short span. Patel, the accused in the Iscon Bridge accident case, was revealed to have been in three accidents within three months.

Additionally, his mother confessed to the police that her son was part of another accident just two weeks prior to the Iscon Bridge incident.

The court was addressing applications from Tathya Patel and his father Pragnesh, who sought to be discharged from the Iscon Bridge accident case that caused nine fatalities and numerous injuries. Justice SV Pinto instructed the lower court to review the accused’s request for a delay in proceedings, considering their application for discharge in the High Court.

Further hearings on the case are scheduled for December 15. The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Hardik Soni opposed the pleas filed by Zeal Shah, the counsel representing the accused.

Senior Counsel IH Syed argued that the accident was unintentional and suggested that the severe charges against the accused might not be fitting based on the case’s details. However, the APP countered by highlighting Tathya Patel’s previous incidents.

In January, Patel had an accident near Santej while driving the same Jaguar involved in the Iscon Bridge case, colliding with a temple pillar, resulting in an FIR against him. Before that, on July 3, Patel was in another accident driving a Thar car, crashing into a restaurant wall and subsequently fleeing the scene. An FIR was filed by the restaurant owner following the incident.
