Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh saw a deadly clash that left eight dead on Sunday. There have been many political developments taking place since then. The Supreme Court of India has intervened in the incident and listed it before a three Judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India for today.

The hearing of the Suo Motu case has begun by the bench of CJI NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli in the apex court. The Supreme Court has asked Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report on who are the accused, against whom FIR is registered and those arrested.

The incident took place during the local farmers were protesting against the state government, showcasing black flags to UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya – who was on visit to his ancestral village Tikunia. During this, four farmers died after they were allegedly run over by a car that was part of the convoy of Ashish Misra – the son of Ajay Misra, Union MoS for Home Affairs.
