As many as 165 public interest projects have not moved owing to delays in land-related approvals.
The projects worth Rs 43,000 crore are held up – and it has slowed the growth of critical sectors such as irrigation, roads, education, health, and industrial development.
Departments have been instructed to show some urgency, remove bottlenecks, and improve coordination.
The delays, according to a report, have slowed revenue streams, including GST, which would have come with project completion and associated economic activity.
Most stalled projects belong to the water supply department (49), followed by roads and buildings (31), health and family welfare (24), railways (15), and urban development (10). Other affected departments include road transport and highways (8), water resources (6), TCGL (6), NHAI (6), energy and petrochemicals (4), transport (2), and legal, Narmada, industry and mines, and Kalpasar (1 each).
The state is taking multiple steps to clear the backlog. Officials said these include resolving acquisition and allotment issues, speeding up infrastructure and utility supply to new industrial zones, and strengthening District Industries Centre offices as regional investment hubs.
Authorities revealed to the daily that the plan also involves engaging MSMEs, industry associations, and major investors for faster grievance resolution. Vibrant Gujarat regional conferences will be used not just for MoUs but also to showcase the economic strengths of individual districts, they said.
At the same time, a statewide cleanliness and beautification campaign is being prioritised.
