Life Sentence Prisoner Walks Out Of Jail Through Main Gate! Sabarmati Jail In Uproar

| Updated: May 14, 2026 19:35

A life sentence prisoner walked out of the central jail through the main gate. Yes, you read that right. As shocking as this sentence may seem, the exact same thing happened at Sabarmati Central Jail, located in Ahmedabad. This is said to be the first such incident in the jail’s history.

The prisoner, Malde Parmar, who was convicted under the POCSO Act and for murder, is from Porbandar. He was arrested in 2023 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2025. Initially, after the verdict, he was kept in Porbandar Jail, then shifted to Rajkot Jail, and later moved to Sabarmati Central Jail.

As per reports, the 30-year-old Parmar was undergoing treatment for mental health issues, including hallucinations.

Parmar’s escape was first discovered on Monday evening during the regular prisoner head count. At that time, the jail officers found that only 32 prisoners were present in Yard No. 4 instead of 33.

After checking CCTV footage, officials saw that around 10 AM, during the morning shift, prisoner Parmar quietly walked out of the jail along with a guard who was opening the main gate. Since Parmar, being a convicted prisoner, had some freedom to move inside the jail, nobody stopped him as he walked out.

A jail guard in charge of the checking point, Babulal Chaudhari, who was on duty that day, was suspended while the investigation continues.

Jail officials have filed a police complaint at Ranip Police Station and have also issued a statewide alert. Police teams across Gujarat have started searching for him, especially in Porbandar, Parmar’s native place.

As the police have started the probe, officials also said that strict action will be taken if any staff members are found negligent.
